Chew Stoke
Community Facilities

A New Village Hall for Chew Stoke providing modern facilities and a base for the Parish Council. This is a proposal for an environmentally exemplary building with low running costs. The high-roofed design is inspired by the tradition of the Saxon ‘moot hall’, a shared building open to all members of a local community, and is intended to be both dignified and enjoyable. The hall’s internal organisation aims for a rich simplicity of form; a versatile volume catering for a complex spectrum of needs. To the south, sliding windows open onto the garden for outdoor events.

Accommodating over 100 people with ample storage, it can be used for theatre, cinema and exhibitions; badminton and other indoor games, as well as local society meetings and talks. There is commercial opportunity when hired out for parties and wedding receptions. The raised green-room can be closed off to host a crèche or small events.
